At the young age of 15, Greta Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg became a famed climate activist when she began protesting outside the Swedish parliament for immediate action to combat climate change.
Thunberg creates opinion for the climate all around the world by her school-strikes. You shouldn't be worried about her education though. This is a girl who is able to create more awareness of threats to the climate than any other politician have been able to. She is probably so gifted that she is able to get through school despite her absence.
Thunberg as a role modelEdit
Thunberg is not only inspiring children around the world, she was also acknowledged by the secretary for the environment of Britain, Michael Gove. In response to her outspoken stance, Gove said:
“When I listened to you, I felt great admiration, but also responsibility and guilt. I am of your parents’ generation, and I recognise that we haven’t done nearly enough to address climate change and the broader environmental crisis that we helped to create.”
Thunberg is a role model to all of the people who are aware of our last chance to steer away from multiple devastating futures. However, her argument is not driven by some kind of doomsday threat, but is based on hope.
Thunberg is an impersonation of hope itself because she represents David, who was jewish, against Goliath. She is a small girl with pigtails, against the world. A brave girl behind an enormous lectern in front of a juggernaught of powerful suited adults. She is an inspiration to all people who once have defended themselves or another against a much bigger bully.
Collaboration with "The 1975"Edit
"I am happy to have the opportunity to broadcast my message to a new audience in a new way. I think it is amazing that The 1975 is so strongly involved in the climate crisis. We need to engage people from all parts of society quickly. And I think this collaboration is something new " -Greta Thunberg
At the end of June this year, "The 1975" recorded their new single, also called "The 1975".
Greta Thunberg is a trend, and it's not just people who follow trends but brands and rock bands do it as well. You're going to have to listen to the single itself but I can already tell you that it's not the sound of the future, it's purely a gimmick. To be honest, it doesn't even feel very natural, just a speech with some moving orchestral music thrown in to it. But enough about the album.
Should Greta Thunberg associate herself with pop culture? Well, why not?
She is not a climate professor, not an expert in any subject, she hasn't even finished school. She is an icon, a trend and her best use is that of a gimmick. Im sad to say it but Greta will be forgotten soon, just like any other pop-rock song from 2 years ago. However, I think her collaboration is a positive thing because Greta is all about spreading awareness and "The 1975" is probably more famous (and perhaps more enjoyable) than Greta Thunberg.
I say; rock on Greta, rock while the guitars are still strumming.
You can say alot about Greta Thunberg and criticize her. But you can’t say that she isnt doing a greater good. She is a stunningly brave girl who deserves respect. But for the most part, a listening ear.
